We get questions all the time from customers about whether or not they have post tension cables under their foundation. These questions primarily come from our Tulsa customers, but it is becoming alot more frequent in the Oklahoma city area so we thought we would post a blog about it. First of all, post tension foundations are different from normal foundations in that they have high tension cables running in or beneath the slab. They are designed to help improve the stability of your foundation over time. The problem though, is if you have them, cables running under your garage floor presents a problem when installing an underground garage tornado shelter. In order for a customer with post tension to get their install done properly, you must hire a post tension company to be present for the install. Once the slab is cut and removed, the company will adjust the cables and cap them so that it will be possible to put the storm shelter in the garage floor. This service will cost a little extra on top of the installation, but it will make it possible for everybody to be below ground when a storm is heading their way.

A safe room is an above ground storm shelter. They are a popular choice, especially for those with limited mobility and those that have problems going down stairs. Furthermore, many people with large pets find it hard to get their bigger pets down the stairs of an in-ground garage shelter. A safe room offers the convenience of a large steel closet with a heavy built door.
All of our safe rooms are made of 3/16th’s steel, all the shelters are grounded in case power lines or lightning strikes, we use 4 dead bolt throw locks along with a hatch lock, all safe rooms are anchored to your slab with many 4 ¾ inch anchor bolts with a 10,000 lb shear off rating per bolt. Additionally, you can view the safe room being impact tested at Texas Tech under our safe rooms tab. Whether you needs are for a safe room or an in-ground garage model, we can protect your family from mother nature’s most destructive storms.

A survival bucket is our idea of helping you weather the storm. The kit comes in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid that in an emergency could be used as a sanitary device. Inside the bucket we provide you with a crank style weather radio… so no batteries are needed. This allows you to monitor the storm without worrying about running out of power. We also provide you with bottled water, toilet paper, flashlight and glow stick lights to help illuminate the shelter for up to 12 hours for each glow stick. We urge our customers to add anything else they might think they will need in the event of the storm. When a tornado is nearby it’s not the ideal time to be searching and digging for supplies. We take that worry away from you by providing you the essentials to ride out any storm and the bucket fits conveniently in your shelter, so when the storm strikes your supplies are already in place.
